Entry Format

Entries may be submitted in either of the two following formats.

ESSAY: Maximum 1000 words, not including supplementary information such as a contents page, references, bibliography and appendices.

AUDIO VISUAL PRESENTATION: No more than 10 minutes (video or digital presentation) accompanied by a written explanation of up to 400 words which will enable the presentation to stand on its own merits and be compared fairly with an essay. This statement should address the following questions:

  • How was the research conducted?
  • How is the research related to the format/presentation chosen?
  • Why was this format chosen?
  • What are your conclusions on the specific topic?

Authenticity of Work

All entries submitted must be the student’s original work and must not have been submitted in any other competition in previous years (see eligibility).


Any part of the entrant’s work that has been taken from another source must be referred to in a consistent and accurate format. Teachers and students may refer to The National History Challenge website for a guide to referencing at: .

Publication of Winning Entries

Winning entrants will be notified by 5 December 2015. Winning entries will be published on the Australian Bravery Association website at: .

Submission of Entries

Entrants must attach a completed coversheet and the signed declaration with their entry. Audio visual presentations should be submitted on a USB together with supporting documents.

The Competition Manager must receive all entries by 6 November 2015. No late entries will be accepted.
